From makeup chair to tugboat, this full-day branding session with Kamila Calko, founder of Sea Light, was nothing short of legendary. Kamila is a true powerhouse—a trailblazer turning the tide on the gender gap in the maritime industry, working to shift the current from a staggering 2% of women toward true equality at sea.
We began the day grounded and intentional. Kamila started with professional makeup to bring out her natural glow and confidence, then headed to Cinderbloc Studio in Victoria, BC, where we captured bold, empowered headshots that matched the strength and vision behind her work. These images radiated authority, grace, and the fierce energy of a woman charting new waters.
From there, we made our way to Fort Rodd Hill, where the historic lighthouse stood as a symbolic beacon—mirroring Kamila’s own role as a guiding light for women in maritime. The wild, coastal backdrop gave us that elemental energy: wind in her hair, sea on the horizon, and a fire in her eyes.
We wrapped our session down on the docks, where Kamila climbed aboard a tugboat—no longer just a passenger in this industry, but a captain in her own right. We even brought out the drone for sweeping, cinematic coverage that captured her in her element: leading, pushing boundaries, and making waves.
It was an absolute honour to photograph Kamila’s journey and vision. Her passion for creating safer, more inclusive opportunities on the water is inspiring, and I left the day with salt on my skin and fire in my heart.
