A Rain-Kissed Wedding at Starling Lane Vineyard
Vancouver Island Wedding Photographer
Some weddings just feel like a full-circle moment—and this one was so special in all the ways.
Nearly 20 years ago, I photographed one of my very first weddings at Starling Lane Vineyard, and returning to this magical venue brought back so many memories. The charm, the heritage buildings, the vines—it’s like time slows down here in the most beautiful way. And this time, I had the absolute joy of capturing Kristy and Eric’s heartfelt celebration.
This wedding was extra meaningful because I’d also photographed Kristy’s brother’s wedding a few years ago in Vancouver, BC. Being welcomed back by the same family to witness another love story unfold? Truly one of the greatest honours of this work.
As for the day itself—pure magic. A light drizzle of rain graced us just enough to make the colours pop, giving everything that lush, painterly look. The greenhouse on the property made for the perfect cozy and romantic spot to hold their intimate ceremony, keeping everyone dry and tucked into the moment.
What made this day even more memorable were the personal touches woven throughout. Kristy made her own wedding cake (yes, really!), and her best friend hand-knitted her shawl with so much love. Every single detail had heart behind it, from the florals to the vows—and I found myself teary more than once behind the camera.
Weddings like this remind me why I do what I do. The connection, the intention, the quiet joy. It’s never just about the photos—it’s about capturing how it felt.
